Gantz Kat by Suichi Tanaka

This took a little over two hours.

The first hour was spent on the face and hair. The hair and skin colors were sampled out of a recent color sketch posted.

One advantage of the totally monochrome Gantz suit is that you can do the base color with a simple fill. The hard part was picking the color. The anime has a fairly purplish base color, but many associated pinups and production art range from charcoal to blue to even reddish. This one probably could have been a little darker. But as usual, my coloring is about as Bold as J. Alfred Prufrock. That could be because I was working against a white background. When I was done, it seemed so sterile, I needed a color that could make the rest of them show. Trying to go with the theme, I first tried a blood red, but that totally stomped the hair. After about three tries just wandering through the color picker, I got this, and it just pops.

I found a site and watched the Gantz anime. Frankly, I found it profoundly frustrating. Must be a cultural thing, because if the characters had been Americans, they wouldn't have spent a tenth as much time standing around paralyzed, not knowing what to do as monsters decimated their party while they angsted about shooting them. And don't get me started on the ending....
